The Original Course Around the Lake

The Lake Course at Vale Resort opened in 1994 as the estate's original championship layout. Peter Johnson designed the course before later creating Wales National, giving the resort its first full 18-hole test.

The round begins with a long par three played in sight of the hotel, then opens into flatter parkland crossed by lakes and streams. Stronger slopes arrive through holes six to eight and again at 15 and 16, changing both stance and club choice.

Water influences twelve holes, but the clearest decision comes at the 12th, a short par four with an island green and a lake down the left. The closing par five offers another choice: take on the second shot over water or lay up. Between those moments, the course's length of 6,436 yards and par 72 allow a wide range of golfers to enjoy the round while still demanding careful judgement around the hazards.

The Lake Course gives a Vale Resort stay a shorter, more approachable companion to the longer Wales National, while retaining enough water and tournament character to stand on its own. Golfers can use the resort's 15-bay floodlit driving range before play, then return to the shared clubhouse without another transfer.
