A Course Built for the Ryder Cup

The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor Resort opened in 2007 as the first course created specifically to stage a Ryder Cup. Its design combined nine newly built holes in the Usk Valley with nine holes retained and extensively reshaped from the former Wentwood Hills layout.

The opening section carries a links-like feel through long rough and greenside swales. The character changes around the turn, where lakes tighten the lines into greens and reward players willing to judge a demanding carry. The final four holes rise to higher ground, creating an elevated closing sequence that ends beneath the purpose-built clubhouse.

The course hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup, when Europe defeated the United States 14½–13½ after weather delays pushed the decisive singles session into Monday. It has also welcomed the European Tour for ten Wales Open events, adding tournament history beyond its Ryder Cup identity.
