Braid's Varied Course by the Firth

The golf course at Golspie Golf Club began as nine holes after the club's formal establishment in 1889. It reached 18 holes in 1905, before James Braid introduced further changes in the 1920s. His improvements were completed in 1926 and remain central to the course played today.

The early holes follow the shoreline beside the Dornoch Firth, where firm turf and exposed wind bring a clear links character. The short 5th, Sahara, offers a driveable par four, while the following hole plays to a green tucked between dunes.

Around the turn, the course enters Ferry Wood. Pines border the fairways, and heather punishes shots missing the preferred line. The landscape changes again on the inward half as the routing crosses more open pasture before returning towards the coast.

Golspie closes with an unusual sequence. The 16th and 17th are consecutive par threes, including a blind shot over a ridge, before the long par-four 18th asks for a partly hidden approach to finish.
