The golf course at Killeen Castle formally opened in 2009 after Jack Nicklaus had played the first round on the completed layout the previous summer. It occupies 350 acres of the County Meath estate, where woodland and the castle give the modern course a much older backdrop. As one of only two Jack Nicklaus Signature courses in Ireland, it was planned to accommodate everyday play as well as major events.

The routing offers width from the tee, but approaches demand far more care. Greens are large, often contoured, and protected by bunkers, while small ponds and mature trees influence the line into several holes. Multiple tee positions allow the course to change with the golfer and weather. The extensive drainage and sand used during construction also support year-round play.
Its tournament identity arrived quickly.

Killeen Castle hosted the Ladies Irish Open from 2010 to 2012 and became the first Irish venue for the Solheim Cup in 2011. That event fixed the course firmly in modern Irish golf history, while the castle remains a constant landmark throughout the round.
