Across the Dunes to Caldey

The golf course at Tenby Golf Club grew from a nine-hole layout after the club's foundation in 1888. James Braid was commissioned to extend it to 18 holes in 1907 and returned in 1913 to advise on further improvements. The club also became a founding member of the Welsh Golfing Union.

The routing follows Pembrokeshire's natural dunes and wild grasses, with undulating fairways, firm greens, pot bunkers, and approaches partly hidden by the land. The opening four holes place immediate pressure on the scorecard, while five consecutive par fours from the seventh shape the middle of the round.

Each hole carries a local name and story. The third honours Dai Rees, who particularly admired it, while the ninth follows an old pilgrim route between Caldey and Penally. The 17th reaches the course's highest point, opening a view towards Caldey Island, before the closing hole returns across Black Rock and the humps known as "Charlie's Whiskers."

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Tenby works well as an overnight base for a west Wales golf experience. Its 11-room Dormy House sits steps from the first tee, with a driving range, short course, and putting green available on site. The medieval town is also within walking distance, so the stay can remain compact without feeling isolated.

Kinfern can pair Tenby with Ashburnham for two contrasting links rounds, giving the itinerary a quieter coastal chapter before it moves east towards South Wales' larger championship venues.
