The golf course at The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club opened in 1982 across The Hendre, the former country estate of Charles Stewart Rolls. The mansion overlooks parts of the layout, while mature avenues give the opening holes a stately parkland character.

The terrain changes around a large wooded hill. Longer par fours lead into the downhill 7th, where the fairway bends towards a narrow green entrance guarded by water. The inward half begins with an uphill dogleg, followed by a shorter par four played through trees to a green resting in a natural bowl. These shifts in height keep the round varied without losing its estate setting.

Water returns late in the course. The 12th drops from an elevated tee towards a small green protected by a lake and woodland. At the 18th, a long par three crosses water towards the mansion, creating a finish closely tied to the history and appearance of The Hendre.
