Across Jura's Southern Cliffs

The golf course at Ardfin opened in 2017 after six years of design and construction across peat and rock at Jura's southern tip. Fourteen routing concepts were considered before the final sequence was chosen.

The opening stretch rises away from Jura House before the course works along the western cliffs and drops towards beach level. Holes 12 to 14 remain close to the shore, after which the routing turns inland across higher ground and returns to the house at the 18th.

Narrow greens and limited bunkering allow the cliffside terrain to shape much of the challenge. Extensive drainage and regular sand topdressing were used to create firm playing surfaces despite Jura's wet conditions.

Dry stone walls, built with material quarried on the estate, appear within the course and strengthen its connection to the surrounding landscape. Changing elevation and the constant presence of the sea give this modern layout its character.
