Where Parkland Becomes Links

The golf course at Pwllheli Golf Club began in 1900 as nine holes designed by Tom Morris of Hoylake. James Braid extended it to 18 holes in 1909, the same year when David Lloyd George officially opened the enlarged course. Further land and later alterations changed parts of Braid's routing, with major work completed between 1972 and 1975.

Today, the opening seven holes move through tree-lined parkland before the 8th signals the start of the links. Gorse tightens the fairway there, and the following holes turn towards exposed coastal ground where the prevailing wind becomes a stronger factor.

At the 12th, a river sits left and behind the green, demanding precise distance control. The 14th offers a shorter risk-and-reward choice around out of bounds and water, with bunkers near the green. This sharp change of landscape gives the round its clearest character, with Snowdonia visible beyond both halves.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Pwllheli fits naturally into a North Wales golf experience centred on the Llŷn Peninsula. Its setting on Cardigan Bay also gives groups a convenient base near Pwllheli, rather than requiring a long return after the round.

Kinfern can pair it with Porthmadog or Nefyn, keeping transfers manageable while adding a course with two contrasting halves. This makes the course useful for a regional stay where varied golf matters, and where the itinerary should leave room to enjoy the peninsula beyond the fairways.
