Two Terrains Across Morfa Bychan

The golf course at Porthmadog Golf Club began with the Porthmadoc and Borth-y-Gest Golf Club, registered with the R&A in 1905. Its first nine holes were in full use by 1906. James Braid later advised on the course, around 1910, as plans developed for an 18-hole layout.

The opening half crosses mainly heathland ground, with the fourth, fifth, and sixth reshaped in the mid-1980s into a demanding local sequence. After the turn, the setting changes beside Samson's Bay, where dunes and firm running ground bring a stronger links character.

The 13th tee opens views towards Harlech and Criccieth before the course reaches the par-four 14th. Known as "The Himalayas", its line passes between two large mounds on the toughest-ranked hole. A small stream then cuts across the approach to the par-five 17th, adding one final decision before the closing hole returns towards the clubhouse.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Porthmadog fits naturally into a North Wales route linking the Llŷn Peninsula with Harlech. On-site dormitory rooms can support a practical overnight stay, while two practice grounds allow golfers to prepare before the round.

The course also sits within easy reach of Royal St David's and Nefyn, with Pwllheli close by, giving Kinfern several practical ways to shape the surrounding days. Its mixture of inland and coastal golf adds variety without requiring a long transfer between each stop.
