Three Nines Above the Sea

The golf course at Nefyn Golf Club began in 1907, after local golfers met at the Tŷ Coch Inn on Porthdinllaen beach and laid out nine holes. It expanded to 18 holes in 1912. J.H. Taylor and James Braid influenced its development during the 1920s and 1930s, with later work by F.W. Hawtree, A.H.F. Jiggens, and Swan Golf Designs shaping the course golfers play today.

Nefyn now has three nine-hole loops. The Yellow front nine follows the clifftop, while the Red back nine moves onto more inland ground. Together, they form the 18-hole Championship Course. The Blue loop, known as the Point, stretches along the narrow headland and is available as an additional nine.

The exposed setting keeps the wind involved throughout the round. Blind drives, thick rough, and bunkering place value on choosing a clear line before committing to the shot. The Point brings the most striking terrain, with holes pressed between cliffs and the bay, while the inland loop adds a quieter change of rhythm.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Nefyn gives a North Wales itinerary unusual flexibility because one venue can occupy a full golfing day without repeating the same landscape. Its position on the Llŷn Peninsula also works well within a route featuring Porthmadog, Pwllheli, or Royal St David's.

Kinfern can build the course into a slower coastal sequence, allowing time for the extra Point nine and the surrounding area rather than treating Nefyn as a rushed stop between longer transfers.
