Between the Vardre Hills and Sea

The golf course at Llandudno (Maesdu) Golf Club began in 1915, when the town council bought the former Maesdu Estate to provide local golf and attract visitors to Llandudno. James Braid advised on the layout, while club professional Tom Jones worked with him to expand and develop the 18-hole course.

Its routing reflects how the surrounding town changed. Deganwy Road, once only a footpath, now separates the opening and closing pairs of holes from the middle fourteen. The railway forms another firm boundary, and water hazards cross or guard close to half the holes.

The course blends gently undulating parkland with coastal ground between the Vardre Hills and the Irish Sea. Views stretch across Conwy Bay towards Snowdonia, with the Great Orme anchoring the coastline. Contoured greens place added weight on pace and positioning.

Maesdu also staged the first Professional Home International Series in 1938, adding a distinct chapter to its tournament history.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Maesdu gives a North Wales golf experience a different rhythm from the region's pure links courses. Its position less than a mile from Llandudno keeps the round close to the town, while Conwy and North Wales Golf Club create natural nearby pairings.

Kinfern can use Maesdu to add parkland variety between coastal rounds, with gently undulating ground and several tee options making it suitable for mixed groups. Its convenient setting also leaves more time to enjoy Llandudno before or after the round.
