Across the Line at Lundin

The golf course at Lundin Golf Club was founded in 1868 beside a links already shared with golfers from Leven. Players began from opposite ends of the same coastal ground, an arrangement that became increasingly difficult as both memberships grew.

A separate future took shape after Lundin members sought more space in 1907. James Braid reviewed plans the following year, and the reconfigured 18-hole course was completed in 1909, combining retained seaside holes with new ground north of the railway.

That division still gives the course its unusual rhythm. The opening five follow the coast towards Mile Dyke, the middle nine rise onto firmer inland terrain, and the final four return to traditional links ground. Burns, internal out-of-bounds, wind, and deep bunkering make position more valuable than distance alone.

The change in elevation also creates one of Lundin's defining moments at the 14th tee, where Largo Bay and the wider course come into view. It is a layout shaped by two landscapes, yet the transitions feel purposeful rather than stitched together.
