Leven Links

The Links West of Mile Dyke

The golf course at Leven Links began in 1846 as nine holes laid across the old golfing ground west of the Mile Dyke. Old Tom Morris later advised on the bunkering and extended the course eastwards to 18 holes in 1868. Young Tom Morris won the inaugural 36-hole competition held that October.

The shared course once stretched into what is now Lundin Links. Growing demand led to its division at the Mile Dyke in 1909, establishing the ground used by today's Leven layout.

Its character comes from natural dune ridges formed as ancient sea levels receded. Fairways occupy the valleys between them, while slopes, hollows, revetted bunkers, burns, and firm running greens keep the ball close to the ground and reward thoughtful approaches.

At the final hole, the broad Scoonie Burn wraps around the front and right of a large green, demanding two committed shots to finish a course whose modest yardage rarely tells the full story.
