A New Links on Ancient Ground

The golf course at Kingsbarns Golf Links opened in July 2000, but the site carries a much older golfing story. Players were recorded here in 1793, and the Kingsbarns Golfing Society followed in 1815.

The current course took shape after Mark Parsinen and Art Dunkley joined architect Kyle Phillips in 1997. Its fairways move through humps, hollows, and raised sections that give a recently built course the varied movement associated with far older Scottish terrain.

Phillips uses the coastline as both setting and strategic pressure. Fairway position influences the clearest route into the greens, while the uncovered Cambo Burn adds another hazard. At the par-three 15th, the target sits on Rocky Ness, where beach, sea, and exposed ground frame one of the course's boldest shots.

Kingsbarns joined the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship rota in 2001 and hosted the Ricoh Women's British Open in 2017. Those events confirmed that a course opened at the turn of the century could quickly earn a place among Scotland's established championship venues.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Kingsbarns works especially well for golfers who want one of Scotland's highest-ranked courses without leaving the St Andrews area. Multiple tees, full practice facilities, and an optional caddie service help visiting players prepare for an unfamiliar layout before the round begins.

Kinfern can help you pair Kingsbarns with older links to create a compelling contrast between centuries of tradition and a modern course already recognised among the world's best.
