Where Balcarres Opens to the Forth

Dumbarnie Links opened in May 2020 on the Balcarres Estate, with Clive Clark designing a modern pay-and-play course above Largo Bay. The project transformed a 350-acre section of the estate, using extensive shaping to create low dunes, movement, and separation between holes. It hosted the Women's Scottish Open in 2021, barely a year after opening.

The routing moves between elevated inland ground and coastal holes nearer the beach. Wide fairways allow confident driving, yet split landing areas, varied bunkering, run-offs, and large contoured greens keep position relevant. Raised tees at the 6th, 8th, and 9th send shots downhill towards the Firth of Forth, while the short par fours at the 3rd, 11th, and 17th invite different levels of risk.

At the 17th, a 300-year-old stone wall cuts across the line to a heavily protected, three-tiered green. The long 10th was revised before the 2025 season, with a blind burn removed after player feedback, reflecting a willingness to refine the course as it matures.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

The course brings a fresh tempo to an experience built around Fife's older venues. Its visitor-focused setup, choice of tees, and generous playing corridors make it easier for mixed-ability groups to enjoy the same round without removing meaningful decisions.

The appeal extends beyond the scorecard: arrival, practice facilities, and service feel considered from the outset. Kinfern can include the course for golfers who want a visually impressive modern venue that complements, rather than imitates, the region's historic links.
