The Machrie Links at Another Place, The Machrie began in 1891, when Willie Campbell laid out the original course above Laggan Bay. The routing changed over the decades, with David J. Russell led its latest redesign between 2013 and 2018 to bring the links to modern championship standards.

The course now stretches beyond 7,000 yards from the back tees across Islay's natural duneland. Generous fairways provide room from the tee, although the best angles into the greens still require careful positioning. Revetted bunkers frame many targets. Flowing run-offs and strongly contoured putting surfaces keep the challenge focused on approach play and recovery.

Views extend across the Atlantic towards Beinn Bheigeir and the Paps of Jura. Several holes move close to Laggan Bay, while changes in wind can alter club choice and preferred lines. The redesign retained the setting and character of the original links while giving the course a clearer test for today's golfer.
