Braid's Lines Across Bogside

The golf course at The Irvine Golf Club grew from a club formed in 1887, with its first course opened the following year. The original committee laid out the holes before Willie Fernie directed a series of alterations as more land became available.

James Braid inspected the course in 1925, and the club accepted his recommendations in full. He returned the next year and adjusted only two details, adding bunkers short of the eighth and 16th greens. The club records that the course has remained almost unchanged since then.

Gorse and heather tighten the fairways, while the sequence moves between long par fours and shorter holes where position matters more than power. The back nine begins with a hole named "Braid", followed by "Grandstand", a dogleg recalling the neighbouring racecourse.

Views towards Arran open from the 12th tee, before a cross-bunker demands a full carry at the par-three 16th and sand shapes the choices on the closing hole.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

The Irvine brings another proven championship venue into an Ayrshire itinerary without copying the scale or character of the region's headline courses. The club has hosted The Amateur Championship, national events, and the Women's Home Internationals, while its traditional clubhouse holds medals, trophies, equipment, and other historic pieces.

Kinfern can pair it with Royal Troon, Dundonald Links, or Western Gailes, adding a grounded club setting and a demanding Braid layout to a South West Scotland golf experience.
