Sea Views on Every Hole

The golf course at Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club has occupied its Grangemuir Road site since 1892. Charlie Hunter, an early captain of the club and later the professional at neighbouring Prestwick, laid out the present course. That being said, the club itself dates to 1851, when Old Tom Morris helped form the Prestwick Mechanics Club, renamed Prestwick St Nicholas in 1858.

Before gaining its permanent home, members shared Prestwick's original 12-hole links for 26 years. Its history remains close, although the present round has a clear setting of its own. The sea is visible from every hole, with views across the Firth of Clyde towards Arran and Ailsa Craig.

At 6,044 yards and par 69, the course can appear modest on the card. Narrow, gorse-lined fairways and well-protected greens place greater value on position. Deep bunkers and running ground complicate distance control. Coastal wind adds another decision to each exposed shot, while the undulating greens keep shorter approaches from becoming routine.
