Two Eras on One Links

The Barassie Links at Kilmarnock Golf Club carries a history beginning with the club's formation in 1887. Golf moved from Holmes Farm to the present Barassie site in 1894, where Theodore Moon's routing established the foundation of the course. Today's championship layout combines nine of those original holes with nine added in 1997.

The opening three holes follow the older ground before the course passes through mature woodland to the newer middle section. Golfers then return to the historic layout for holes 13 to 18. The club has continued to refine this mixture, adding a new par-3 12th and realigning the 13th for the 2022 season.

Firm turf, railway boundaries, doglegs, and partly hidden lines reward careful positioning from the tee. The newer holes introduce a different scale, while the closing stretch returns to tighter, long-established ground. A three-tier green at the 18th keeps the final approach demanding, even though the hole is modest in length.
