Between Whins and the Railway

Glasgow Gailes Links at Glasgow Golf Club opened in 1892 after members sought Ayrshire ground they could control away from crowded city parks. Willie Fernie later reshaped the layout, before Willie Park Jr. and club professional Tulloch completed another redesign in 1912. The present routing still follows Park's broad plan, although the course has been lengthened over time.

Firm fairways invite the running shot, yet whins tighten many landing areas. The railway and outer boundary bring out-of-bounds into the golfer's thoughts, while the wind can change the best line from one round to the next. Straight driving matters, especially when longer holes ask for another committed strike.

Gailes also carries a serious competitive history. It has served as an Open Championship Final Qualifying venue since 1973 and was Scotland's sole Final Qualifying course from 2014 through 2017. The course combines an old club setting with a test still trusted for elite championship golf
