A Modern Test Across Gleneagles Moorland

The PGA Centenary Course at The Gleneagles Hotel opened in 1993 as the Monarch's Course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus with Ron Kirby, it brought a larger, American-style layout to an estate already known for the King's and Queen's courses.

Its fairways move across rolling moorland with open views towards the Ochil Hills. The scale is immediately noticeable. Bold bunkering frames the route, while large, undulating greens place real weight on approach distance and club choice.

Five teeing positions allow the challenge to change considerably. From farther back, the course asks for sustained length and accurate carries. From the shorter markers, the routing becomes more manageable, though trouble often gathers near the fronts of the greens.

The 5th, Crookit Cratur, follows twisting ground towards a narrow green entrance, while the 9th brings water and bunkers into play along the right. A renovation completed in 2012 refined the course before its next major chapter.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Playing the PGA Centenary adds a championship chapter to a stay at Gleneagles. The course staged the 2014 Ryder Cup, where Europe secured victory on Scottish soil, and the 2019 Solheim Cup, decided by a single point. Those events give the course an added sense of place for golfers who remember the matches.

It also offers a clear contrast to the older King's and Queen's layouts. We can include it in your Kinfern golf experience alongside either course or as the main event of your time at the resort.
