From Lansdowne Ground to Rosemount

The Rosemount Course at The Blairgowrie Golf Club developed from ground once associated with the club's Lansdowne layout. Alister MacKenzie first inspected the site and prepared plans in 1914, but the work was postponed during the First World War. He returned afterwards, and the expanded 18-hole course opened in 1927.

James Braid was engaged in 1930 to add eight holes and strengthen the bunkering. Their combined influence produced an inland course built around angles and placement rather than spectacle alone, with each part of the round asking a slightly different question.

The course changes direction frequently, bringing different shot shapes into play throughout the round. Shorter par fours encourage restraint and careful positioning, while the longer holes place greater value on planning the next shot around bunkers, slopes, and guarded greens.

Its closing sequence shifts pace again. The short 15th demands accuracy, the long 16th makes safety a sensible choice, and the 17th, named Plateau, finishes on a two-level green where reaching the correct section is essential.
