Through Menie's Towering Dune Valleys

The Old Course at Trump International Golf Links, Scotland opened in July 2012 after Martin Hawtree routed the layout through the Menie Estate's coastal dune system. Its two out-and-back loops return to the clubhouse after nine holes, giving the course a classical structure within unusually large terrain.

The opening half stays close to the North Sea. The 2nd asks players to judge a burn crossing the fairway, while the partly hidden par-three 3rd sits behind a huge dune ridge only yards from the beach.

After the turn, the land grows more dramatic. Fairways occupy secluded valleys between sandhills that rise towards 100 feet, and elevated tees reveal shots that remain concealed from lower ground. Revetted bunkers and firm run-offs make position as important as distance.

The 14th tee opens one of the broadest coastal views on the course before the routing turns home. At the last, a 617-yard par five commonly plays into the prevailing wind, closing a round built around immense scale and repeated changes in elevation.
