Craigewan's Route Into the Dunes

The Craigewan Course at Peterhead Golf Club stands on links used by the club since 1892, when Willie Park Jr. designed a nine-hole layout. Archie Simpson extended it to 18 holes in 1908, creating the main course now played beside the River Ugie and North Sea.

The early holes remain closer to the river before the routing moves deeper into the sandhills. Fairways rise and dip between natural banks, while exposed ground keeps the coastal wind involved. Much of the challenge comes from the existing contours rather than heavy shaping, giving the course an old-fashioned character.

At the far end, the par-four 9th follows a dune valley towards a green that demands an accurate approach. The short 10th changes the task immediately, with a burn in front and five bunkers surrounding a green that slopes from back to front.

Craigewan's closing stretch returns through the dunes towards the clubhouse. Smaller targets and uneven lies keep the round engaging, especially when the wind changes direction across the links.
