Water, Woodland, and Eighteen Bunkers

The Knights Course at Meldrum House opened in 1998, adding a modern layer to an estate whose recorded history reaches back to the 13th century. Graeme Webster set the routing around the hotel, using the mature grounds rather than separating the course from its historic setting.

From the championship tees, the course extends beyond 7,000 yards, yet its challenge is not simply one of length. Rolling parkland, woodland corridors, ponds, bunkers, and undulating greens ask golfers to decide when to attack and when to leave a safer angle. Five tee positions on every hole allow the test to change considerably.

Water comes into play on ten holes, beginning early and returning throughout the round. The par-five 11th provides the clearest example of the course's bold modern character: eighteen bunkers protect the green and make position more valuable than brute force.

The result is a parkland round with clear strategic choices, visual variety, and a strong sense of place within the historic Meldrum Estate.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Adding this course gives an Aberdeen golf experience an inland contrast to the region's coastal links. Its sheltered estate setting offers a different pace, while varied teeing options suit groups with mixed playing abilities.

Access is reserved for members and hotel guests, making the course a natural fit for an estate stay. Golfers can also use the 24-acre academy, including its driving range, short-game areas, putting greens, and Toptracer-equipped bays. It is a practical base for combining focused practice, parkland golf, and further rounds across Aberdeenshire.
