A Links Legacy Still Evolving

The Corbiehill Course at Fraserburgh Golf Club occupies Philorth Links, where the club moved in 1891 after its earlier nine-hole ground became congested. James Braid redesigned the layout in 1922, and parts of his work remain within today's course.

Further changes followed in the late 1950s and in 1976, when Alex Swan and Sir Henry Cotton contributed to revisions that brought the holes onto the same side of the B9033. The route now crosses natural sandhills beside Fraserburgh Bay, with winds arriving from both the North Sea and Moray Firth.

The 13th, The Hillocks, captures its playful character. Mounds and bunkers crowd the usual landing area, while the green's back-to-front slope can gather a well-judged approach. Its shaping later helped inspire the ninth hole at the Rio Olympic course.

The course mixes firm links turf, uneven stances, and frequent changes in height. From the three-tiered green at the par-three 14th, the closing stretch turns home through exposed ground towards the clubhouse.
