Three Irish Opens at Deerpark

The Deerpark Course at Fota Island Resort opened in 1993, with Christy O'Connor Jr. and Peter McEvoy creating the original layout across rolling parkland near Cork Harbour. Jeff Howes redesigned the course in 2000, preparing it for a stronger championship test while keeping the mature woodland and broad estate setting central to the round.

Wide fairways give room from the tee, though water and positioning still matter. The 10th drops through trees before turning left towards a lakeside green, while the closing par five brings water into play beside a multi-tiered putting surface. Both holes show how Deerpark can appear generous before the approach asks a more exact question.

Fota Island has hosted the Irish Open three times, in 2001, 2002, and 2014. Those championships placed the course firmly within modern Irish tournament history.

Deerpark now forms part of Fota Island's 27-hole golf setup. Its mature surroundings and demanding finish give it a clear identity within the resort's wider offering.
