Lough Erne Resort (Faldo Course)

Between Two Fermanagh Loughs

The Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort opened in summer 2009 at the close of a decade-long golf development. Sir Nick Faldo routed it across a peninsula between Castle Hume Lough and Lower Lough Erne. An eight-inch sand foundation, developed with course architect Guy Hockley, gives the inland layout firm, links-like playing conditions throughout the year.

The round begins beyond Reeds Bridge, passing through wetlands and evergreen woodland over the first five holes. The ground then rises towards the 6th, where both loughs come into view, before the routing follows the changing banks of Lough Erne.

Each named hole reflects part of the setting. The short par-four 10th, Emerald Isle, asks golfers to judge risk against a green bordered by water on three sides. At the par-five 16th, the lough follows the full length of the fairway below a raised tee. The closing par three returns players to the resort, ending the round directly beneath its lakeside buildings.
