The Dunes of St Marnocks

The Jameson Golf Links at Portmarnock Resort opened in 1995 on the former St Marnocks estate of the Jameson family. Golf had been played here much earlier: John Jameson laid out a private nine-hole course in the dunes during the 1850s. Bernhard Langer and Stan Eby later designed the modern links across 203 acres.

Jeff Lynch led a major rebuild completed in 2023, reshaping the course from the eighth onwards. Five new green complexes and four new tee areas brought more of the high dunes into play. The short ninth now sits close to the sea, while the raised green at the par-five 12th opens wide views across the coastline.

Blind approaches and doglegs keep the golfer thinking, especially when the sea breeze reaches the exposed greens. The course staged the Ladies Irish Open in 2008 and 2009, followed by the Irish Challenge in 2021. Its present routing reveals wider views of Velvet Strand, Lambay, and Ireland's Eye.
