Braid's Links Above the Camel

The Church Course at St. Enodoc Golf Club took its modern form in 1907, when James Braid laid out a full 18-hole course on the duneland at Rock. He returned in 1937 after the clubhouse moved, creating the present 17th and 18th. Tom Simpson also altered the layout, while a 2004 review by Peter McEvoy added fairway bunkering, tees, and a new 13th green.

The routing rises and falls across natural dunes overlooking the Camel Estuary and Padstow. Fairways ripple through hollows and slopes, leaving few level stances. The course can remain difficult even when the wind is light. At the 10th, the drive crosses a valley from an elevated tee towards a narrow fairway set in a natural ravine.

The par-69 card measures 6,557 yards from the blue tees. Braid's design still provides most of the course played today. The lengthened par-5 16th now reaches 560 yards, while the final pair introduced in 1937 brings the round back towards the clubhouse without softening the test.
