Heathland Above Poole Harbour

The Purbeck Course at Isle of Purbeck Golf Club sits high above Poole Harbour on exposed heathland shaped by wind, gorse, and heather. The club was founded in 1892, and Top 100 Golf Courses credits Harry Colt with shaping the course. Its elevated position opens views towards Brownsea Island, Bournemouth, the Solent, and the Purbeck Hills.

The course lies within a nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. Firm playing surfaces and open ground reward golfers who judge wind and bounce rather than relying on distance alone. Long par fours provide much of the challenge, while gorse can quickly turn a small error into a difficult recovery.

The club was once known as Studland Bay Golf Club and was owned by Enid Blyton and her husband, Dr Darrell-Waters. In 1966, Harry Randolph restored the Isle of Purbeck name and opened the present clubhouse. Fossils set into its walls and the continuing Purbeck Sword competition preserve links with Randolph's former role at Wilkinson Sword.
