Old Tom's Course by the Firth

The Old Course at Moray Golf Club was laid out when the club opened in 1889. Old Tom Morris became a regular visitor in its early years and played exhibition matches at Lossiemouth, linking the course directly with one of golf's defining figures.

The routing begins and ends beside the town before stretching across exposed linksland overlooking the Moray Firth. Gorse narrows the view from many tees, while deep bunkers, uneven ground, and firm greens leave several ways to shape an approach.

Its fifth hole shows the course's strategic character without relying on length alone. The green is easier to approach from the left, but three staggered bunkers make that line the more demanding choice. Moving right creates space from the tee but leaves a less favourable angle.

The return to Lossiemouth gives the round its strongest sense of theatre. The final green sits below the clubhouse and terrace, with the surrounding ground forming a natural amphitheatre. It is a finish rooted in the town rather than separated from it.
