A Course Built Across Generations

The golf course at Kingussie Golf Club grew from a local decision made in 1891. After the club formed, its first course officially opened on 8th of July that year. Old Tom Morris later advised on the original ground, while Harry Vardon planned nine additional holes across the River Gynack, creating the eighteen-hole course opened in 1908.

The course occupies upland ground within Cairngorms National Park, where rolling fairways and natural changes in level shape the round. The river also marks the passage between parts of the older and expanded course.

Two holes capture its less conventional side. The 4th, The Fort, is the course's only par five and finishes at a highly elevated green. The 8th, Punchbowl, is a completely blind par three played over a marker post, requiring trust in both direction and distance.

Kingussie feels shaped by separate chapters rather than one design period. Its architects, river crossing, upland slopes, and Highland surroundings give the course an identity closely tied to its setting.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Kingussie adds an informal, character-led round to a Kinfern golf experience. Its upland terrain, river crossings, and unusual blind and elevated shots suit golfers who value judgement and local character over championship scale.

Kinfern can tailor the day around the group's preferred pace, wider travel plans, and appetite for a relaxed Highland setting. The club's long history and position within Cairngorms National Park also give the experience a strong sense of place beyond the scorecard.
