The golf course at Grantown on Spey Golf Club began in 1890 as nine holes laid out by A.C. Brown. Willie Park expanded it to 18 in 1911, and James Braid advised further changes a decade later. Those stages explain why the layout carries work from three different periods.

Grantown is arranged around changing levels of shelter. Open ground allows wider views towards the Cairngorms, while wooded parts tighten the sightlines and alter the feel of the round. The River Spey forms part of the wider setting rather than dominating every hole.

The club's most distinctive heritage feature sits beyond the usual scorecard. Its Bobby Cruickshank Hickory Experience uses the original nine holes, vintage hickory clubs, and memorabilia linked to Grantown's celebrated golfer, who became the leading money winner on the US professional circuit in 1927.

Its connection with its most famous golfing son gives Grantown a strong local identity. The round feels rooted in Highland golf history, with the setting and club traditions carrying as much weight as outright difficulty.
