Cabot Highlands (Old Petty Course)

Crossing Fairways Beside Castle Stuart

The Old Petty Course at Cabot Highlands officially opened in 2026, following preview play in 2025. Tom Doak routed the course, with associate Clyde Johnson leading the project, across ground beside the Moray Firth and the historic Castle Stuart estate.

History stays close to golf. The 2nd runs past Old Petty Church, built in 1839, and the 3rd plays beside the 400-year-old Castle Stuart. After the 5th, the route turns inland through rolling, open ground before the 10th restores the firth as its backdrop.

The later holes return towards water. The 14th reaches the tidal estuary, the par-five 15th tracks the firth, and the 16th crosses the estuary. A short par three follows at the 17th, setting up a closing hole whose fairway crosses the 1st, a rare arrangement in a modern course.

These changes between inland ground and the shore give the course a distinct rhythm, while natural contours and broad views keep the surrounding Highland landscape present throughout.
