Through Enniscrone's Atlantic Sandhills

The Dunes Championship Links at Enniscrone Golf Club began with the club's nine-hole course in 1918. Eddie Hackett extended it to eighteen holes in 1974, leading the routing into the natural dunes that established its modern reputation. Donald Steel later expanded Enniscrone to 27 holes and reworked the flatter opening section of the championship course.

The links occupies a promontory reaching into Killala Bay at the mouth of the Moy Estuary. Fairways pitch and roll between tall sandhills, while greens sit on plateaux or settle into valleys at their base. The changing levels place a premium on distance control, especially when the Atlantic wind moves across the exposed ground.

The course builds towards its strongest dune sequence. The par-four 12th, Cnoc na gCorp, turns inland before the 13th moves through the burrows. The par-five 14th, Valley of Diamonds, then threads between some of Enniscrone's largest dunes.

Mackenzie & Ebert carried out further work on holes 9, 10, 12, 13, and 18 in 2023, continuing the course's development while retaining the scale and movement of the links.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Enniscrone adds one of North West Ireland's most dramatic dune settings to a regional golf experience. Its 27-hole site also gives Kinfern flexibility when weather or arrival times call for another round.

The Dunes can be paired with County Sligo for contrasting championship links, then connected with Carne for a longer west-coast route. Staying near Enniscrone keeps the pace comfortable and leaves time for the beach and village before the next stage of the itinerary.
