From Farmland to Ryder Cup History

The Brabazon Course at The Belfry Hotel & Resort opened in 1977 and was named after former PGA president Lord Brabazon. Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas shaped the course from farmland near Birmingham, creating a venue suited to major match-play golf. Its opening challenge match featured Seve Ballesteros and Johnny Miller against Tony Jacklin and Brian Barnes.

The routing asks golfers to choose how much trouble to take on. Lakes and sculpted bunkers influence the line from the tee, while fast, undulating greens place extra value on the correct approach angle. The 10th offers a driveable par 4 beside water. The 18th demands another committed carry across a lake to a long, tiered green.
Those holes gained their fame through Ryder Cup moments, but the test continues throughout the card.

The resort has also refreshed parts of the layout, including recent changes to the sixth. The Brabazon remains a modern parkland course shaped around bold decisions and familiar television views. Its tournament history adds pressure to shots golfers may have watched for years before standing over them.
