Two Harries Shape the Parkland

The golf course at Little Aston Golf Club began in 1908, when 141 acres of the former Little Aston Hall estate were leased for a new club. Harry Vardon laid out the original course, but its long carries proved demanding for members. Harry Colt was brought in from 1911 and remained involved for around two decades, softening the test while giving the bunkering and green sites much of their lasting identity.

Today, the course spreads across 176 acres of mature parkland. Tree-lined fairways rise and fall gently, while a gravel base supports notably firm playing conditions for an inland layout. Large greens and prominent Colt-style bunkers make approach position important, even when the hole appears clearly set out from the tee.

The par-4 17th provides the sharpest late-round decision. Donald Steel moved its green closer to the lake in 2007, bringing water firmly into the approach. Little Aston's competitive record also includes five British Masters between 1947 and 1969, along with the 1998 Women's Amateur. That history gives the course national weight without changing its traditional members' club character.
