The Aylesford Course at Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club opened in 1970 and was designed by Donald Steel. It is the shorter of the resort's two 18-hole layouts, playing to a par of 69. Its identity comes from the need to manage position across a parkland routing where smaller greens and narrow corridors reduce the value of raw distance.

Five par 3s and two par 5s give the card a distinctive rhythm. Several short par 4s create birdie chances when the tee shot finds the correct side, while lively surfaces and subtle slopes keep the next stroke honest. The resort's own guide repeatedly favours control from the tee over extra yardage.

The ninth is the toughest hole on the outward half. The 13th carries stroke index one and calls for a precise approach to a guarded green. At the par-5 18th, golfers can challenge the green in two or lay up to a preferred wedge distance. That finish captures the course's character, with scoring chances available to those who choose their positions well.
