Steel's Tournament Test at Packington

The Arden Course at Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club opened in 1970, with Donald Steel shaping the layout across the Packington Park estate. Although modern by English standards, the course has settled into its surroundings, especially on the back nine, where mature oak trees give the holes a strong sense of place.

Water enters the round early and often. The short par-three eighth asks for a controlled shot to a green guarded by water on two sides, while the front nine builds steadily from its gentle opening. Steel's routing then moves into more wooded ground, where thick rough and well-positioned hazards place a premium on finding the fairway.

The closing pair carries much of the course's identity. At the par-five 17th, a bunker guards the left side of the green, and a lake waits to the right. The 18th finishes with a long par three across water, leaving no easy route to the putting surface.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Forest of Arden works well for golfers who want championship golf with the ease of a full resort. The venue also has the 18-hole Aylesford Course, covered and floodlit practice bays, short-game areas, putting greens, accommodation, and dining in one location. Its setting near Birmingham makes it a practical base for exploring the English Midlands.

Kinfern can combine the Arden with another leading regional course, or build a two-round stay at the resort with less time spent changing hotels.
